The National Federation of Opticianry Schools (NFOS) is the national organization dedicated to the promotion of formal opticianry education offered by accredited educational institutions. In recognition of the importance to support our NYS schools, NYSSO supports all NFOS initiatives. It is with great pleasure that HOYA will sponsor this year’s event.
Mark your calendar for Saturday, March 23. A pre-game reception will take place from 5:30 PM – 6:00 PM and the NFOS College Bowl will run from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM in the EyeMax Theater at the Javits Center in room 1A21. Every attendee at the completion of the NFOS College Bowl will receive 1 ABO-NCLE credit.
The NFOS/HOYA College Bowl, is a competition modeled on “Jeopardy” that features questions in anatomy and physiology of the eye, ophthalmic dispensing, ophthalmic fabrication, contact lenses and optics. The stakes are high – in addition to school bragging rights and the NFOS trophy to be displayed for a year at the winning college, the winner will take home a $500.00 first place prize. In the past, students from Connecticut, Florida, New Jersey, Georgia, New York, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Virginia, Nevada, Washington State, and British Columbia have participated in this event.
The event is expected to draw between 300 - 400 attendees, in addition to substantial participation from opticianry and contact lens organizations, schools, and certifying bodies.
The pre-game reception gives everyone an opportunity to network with students, colleagues, college alumni and professors from the various optical programs.
Please mark your calendars. We look forward to seeing everyone there.
