Representing NYS Licensed Opticians in Albany

NYSSO at NYSED Professional Leadership Forum

NYSSO is always vigilant and on the scene in Albany to represent our members and the state’s Licensed Opticians.

Recently, NYSSO Executive Director John Graziano, Jr. and Government Affairs Representative Rebecca Marino, attended the Office of the Professions’ Professional Leadership Forum.  The Forum was overseen by Regent James Jackson and Deputy Commissioner Doug Lentivech. More than 70 individuals, including chairs of the 29 State Boards and Committees and representatives of professional associations that represent many of the 50 licensed professions, were in attendance. The Forum provided an opportunity for the guests and the Office of the Professions to discuss issues of concern in the license, practice and regulation of the professions.

The event also provided a chance for professional association staff to look at how they can collectively work together to strengthen the licensed professions.  NYSSO emphasized the very important need for increasing resources for investigating and stopping unlicensed and illegal practices.

If you would like to learn more about the Professional Leadership Forum’s proceedings and see what is going on with the state’s many licensed professions, you can view the Forum power point presentation here.

Also, NYSSO’s Lobbying Team is preparing for the new Legislative Session, which will begin in January.

As always, we will keep you posted on the Society’s plans to advance its legislative agenda.  Stay tuned.
