Contact Lens Committee Fall ’09 Report

The Contact Lens Committee is pleased to announce that the request for more contact lens courses is being met, and in fact, two courses are available in every region across the state.  In addition, twelve contact lens CE courses are available at NYSSO On-Line, and approximately five more courses are under review and should be available in the near future.

The “new” Contact Lens Review course that was offered at the last Winchester Optical Weekend (WOW) was a success.  Winchester has indicated that they are willing to provide their facilities for any future contact lens programs in conjunction with their continuing education weekend.  There is the possibility that the committee can arrange for a review course in Albany to coincide with the Region 4 Albany Symposium in the fall of 2010.  This could provide a needed refresher prior to the NYS Contact Lens Practical Exam the following week.  The committee feels that coordinating the review course around the same weekend will address the need for additional hands-on instruction and review.

As always, it is still the committee’s primary focus to help prepare as many Ophthalmic Dispensers as possible to become Contact Lens Practitioners.  The committee is always interested in suggestions for improvement, and open to new volunteers.
